A cracked rear camera lens or failed camera module results in blurry photos, black viewfinder output, or error messages when opening the camera app. Replacing the camera module restores full photographic capability including autofocus, optical image stabilisation, and zoom functions.

What You Will Need

  • Replacement rear camera module (model-specific, matching megapixel and lens configuration)
  • Precision screwdrivers
  • Plastic pry tools and spudger
  • Tweezers
  • Isopropyl alcohol and lint-free cloth
  • Anti-static wrist strap

Step 1 — Identify the Camera Configuration

Modern phones often carry two, three, or four rear cameras. Identify which module has failed — open the camera app and switch between lenses to isolate the fault before ordering a replacement part.

Step 2 — Open the Device

Power off the phone. Open the rear panel using heat and plastic pry tools. Disconnect the battery connector once the chassis is open.

Step 3 — Locate and Remove the Camera Module

The rear camera modules sit near the top of the phone, usually held by one to three screws and a mounting bracket. Unscrew the bracket, then carefully lift the camera flex cable connector from the motherboard by pulling it straight upward. Lift the old module out.

Step 4 — Install the New Module

Place the new camera module into the mounting position and connect its flex cable to the motherboard — it will click into place. Replace the bracket and screws to secure the module firmly. A loose camera causes vibration blur even if it functions.

Step 5 — Test the Camera

Reconnect the battery, power on, and open the camera app. Test photos, video, autofocus, flash, and zoom. Confirm no error messages appear. Once verified, seal the device and allow adhesive to cure fully.
