Modern smartphones use non-removable lithium-ion batteries sealed inside the chassis. When your battery no longer holds a charge, drains rapidly, or swells, replacing it restores full-day battery life and eliminates potential safety risks from a bloated cell.
What You Will Need
- Replacement battery (matching voltage and mAh, model-specific)
- Plastic pry tools and spudger
- Pentalobe and Phillips screwdrivers
- Suction cup
- Heat gun or hairdryer
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Battery pull-tab adhesive strips (if original pull tab is absent)
- Anti-static wrist strap
Step 1 — Power Off and Discharge
Power the phone off. For safety, run the battery down below 25% before starting — a low charge reduces fire risk if the battery is accidentally punctured during removal.
Step 2 — Open the Device
Heat the rear panel or screen edges depending on your phone model to loosen adhesive. Pry open the back cover using a suction cup and plastic tools, then unscrew the battery connector bracket and disconnect the battery flex cable from the motherboard.
Step 3 — Remove the Old Battery
Most sealed batteries are secured with strong adhesive strips. Gently warm the back of the phone directly behind the battery for 30 seconds to soften the adhesive. If pull-tab strips are present, pull them slowly at a low angle — parallel to the battery surface — to avoid tearing them. If no pull tab exists, use a spudger to carefully lever the battery from one corner, never bending or puncturing the cell.
Step 4 — Clean the Battery Bay
Remove all adhesive residue from the battery bay using isopropyl alcohol. Ensure the bay is completely dry before installing the new battery.
Step 5 — Install and Connect
Place the new battery into the bay and secure it with fresh adhesive strips. Reconnect the battery flex cable to the motherboard and replace the bracket screws. Reassemble the back cover.
Step 6 — Calibrate the New Battery
Charge the new battery to 100% before first use. For best long-term health, avoid charging overnight repeatedly during the first week.
