The display assembly is the complete screen unit — including the LCD or OLED panel, digitizer, and in many modern phones the front glass — all bonded together. Replacing it is the definitive fix for a smashed screen, dead pixels, colour distortion, or an unresponsive display.
What You Will Need
- Replacement display assembly (model-specific, OEM or OEM-grade)
- Suction cup and plastic spudger set
- Pentalobe and Phillips screwdrivers
- Heat gun or hairdryer
- Tweezers
- Isopropyl alcohol and lint-free cloth
- Adhesive strips or pre-cut adhesive frame
Step 1 — Back Up and Power Down
Back up your data before starting any screen repair. Power off the device completely and remove the SIM tray. For phones with a removable back cover, open the rear panel first and disconnect the battery before touching any connectors.
Step 2 — Heat and Pry Open
Apply heat evenly around the screen edges for 60–90 seconds. Use the suction cup near the bottom edge to lift a small gap, then insert a plastic pry tool and work around the perimeter. Most modern phones use adhesive rather than clips, so steady, patient prying is key.
Step 3 — Disconnect the Display
Unscrew the metal shields covering the display connector. Lift each bracket and disconnect the ribbon cables — typically two to three connectors for modern AMOLED displays. Note the order and orientation of each cable.
Step 4 — Install the Replacement
Connect the new display assembly's cables in the same order they were removed. Secure the bracket screws. Power on the phone to verify the display shows a clear image and touch input is accurate across all edges and corners.
Step 5 — Seal the Device
Once confirmed working, power off, apply fresh adhesive strips to the chassis perimeter, lower the new assembly into place, and press down evenly from the centre outward. Leave undisturbed for at least 30 minutes before use.
