About the Moka Pot
Invented by Alfonso Bialetti in 1933, the moka pot is a stovetop brewer that uses steam pressure to push water through finely ground coffee. It remains one of the most popular coffee-making methods in Italy and is widely used across East Africa and the world. Moka pots are available in aluminium and stainless steel, in sizes from 1 to 18 cups, and from brands including Bialetti, Alessi, Cuisinox, Gimoka, and many others.
Common Moka Pot Problems We Fix
Leaking Between Chambers
Steam escaping from between the upper and lower chambers indicates a worn gasket seal. This is the most common moka pot fault and the easiest to fix — we carry standard gaskets in all sizes.
Weak or No Coffee Extraction
Weak coffee usually points to a clogged filter basket, a loose fit between chambers, or an insufficient heat source. We clean filter baskets, replace gaskets, and assess the funnel and filter plate.
Blocked Safety Valve
The safety valve on the lower chamber prevents dangerous pressure build-up. A blocked valve is a serious issue. We clean, test, and replace safety valves across all moka pot brands.
Broken Handle
Moka pot handles crack or melt from direct flame exposure. We replace handles with heat-resistant compatible parts for Bialetti, Alessi, and other brands.
Discolouration and Scaling
Hard water mineral deposits and coffee staining affect both appearance and flavour. We descale and clean moka pots professionally.
Stripped Chamber Threads
Cross-threading or corrosion can damage the threads between upper and lower chambers. We assess thread damage and advise on restoration or part sourcing.
