Power Surges: The Number One Culprit
The most common way storms damage televisions is through power surges. A direct or nearby lightning strike can send a massive spike of voltage through overhead power lines, and that spike travels straight into any device plugged into the wall — including your TV. Modern television screens, especially LED, OLED, and QLED panels, rely on delicate driver boards and circuitry to control pixels and backlighting.
